How much time do we need our wedding photographer for?

When you plan your wedding day, you would like to know how much time you will need your photographer for.

This is something that I share with my clients when we first meet.
So you will (roughly) know how the day will run = how many hours you need your wedding photographer or videographer for on your wedding day.

Every single wedding is different but you will get rough idea from this.

Getting Ready:
Bride: Minimum of 1 hour - 1.5 hours (at home or hotel room)
Groom: 45 minutes to 1 hour
Grooms: (2 grooms are getting ready together): 1 to 1.5 hours
Brides: (2 Brides are getting ready together):1.5 hours

Ceremony:

Civil Ceremony: 15 - 25 minutes (Marriage Celebrant will marry you)
Church Ceremony: 30 - 90 minutes (All depends with the minister. Some even go for longer)
Cultural Ceremony: 15 - 20 minutes each location (Chinese Tea Ceremony), Indian style ceremony (a few days over 3-4 weeks!!)

Group Photos & Family Photos: (we usually do this straight after your ceremony)

Group Photos: 10 minutes
Family photos: 15 - 30 minutes (Depending on how many family and guests you would like to have the photos with)

Location Photo Shoot:

Ideally, I would like to have 1.5 hours excluding traveling time between the locations.
Whatever the time to finish your Group Photos & Family Photos to the beginning of the reception party is your Location Photo Shoot Time.
- Please don’t forget to add on traveling time between the locations.
- If you are having your wedding in Sydney’s winter, we will need to chat about this as the sun will set around 4:30pm!

Ideal time to arrive to the reception venue is while your guests are still enjoying their drinks and canapés. So you can have a little rest and quick bite in your bridal room before the reception party starts. (Yes, it’s a long day for you!)

Reception Party:

A lot of reception venues in Sydney starts the reception party from 6:30pm - 7pm and finish around 10:30pm - 11pm.
Some couples prefer me to stay till the end. Some couples want me to photograph for the first few hours only.
It’s totally up to you. A lot of couples do their first dance towards the end, some couples cut the cake and dance right at the start. So it’s your call!

Now you have better idea how many hours you will need your wedding photographer on your wedding day.

At Sydney Wedding Photography by Katsu, you don’t need to select your package until 2 weeks before your wedding day. So based on what I have shared today, you can easily select your favourite photography package closer to your wedding day.

Geez, that was a loooong post!

Hope this article will help to plan your wedding!

Thank you.
