My “less” favourite wedding ceremony spots in Sydney…

When you google, you will find a lot of blog posts like “The most popular wedding ceremony spots in Sydney”. If you live in Sydney and looking for your beautiful wedding spot, you might feel, “I already know those spots.” then you would probably close the window.

So today, I would like to share MY LESS FAVOURITE wedding ceremony spots in Sydney.

Pleeeeeeeeease don’t get me wrong!

These spots that I am going to mention are all beautiful, popular and I actually love visiting there for my morning walk, outdoor PT sessions, picnic, landscape photography or even wedding location photos but not so much for wedding CEREMONY spots.

Yes, I said THE CEREMONY SPOTS not the location photo spots.
(I will explain more details below)

So here we go….

1: Hickson Road Reserve

You might be surprised that I mention this spot as this is one of the most beautiful and popular where you will be able to enjoy Sydney’s icons The Opera House and The Harbour Bridge. Once again, this spot is absolutely beautiful and super popular for everyone but probably not so much for wedding photographers like myself.

Let me explain why…

Photography is all about lighting.
Some people say photography is “Art of Light”.

Great backdrops like The Opera House and The Harbour Bridge as well as great compositions are always great. But if the lightings are terrible, you will never get great photos.

Unfortunately, this spot always creates hash lighting whether it’s morning or later afternoon or winter or summer for the wedding ceremony. This spot is a killer for all wedding photographers in Sydney. (Some of my wedding photographers agreed with me!)

By saying that, if you would like to have wedding location photos there (not wedding ceremony), I can definitely do some great shots. Only because I can direct you and we will have more flexibly in terms of the angles or direction or compositions during the wedding location shoots.

However, I won’t be able to yell out to you to move or change the directions during the ceremony. (You and your celebrant would kill us if we do so!!) So I gotta shoot from fixed spots.

Plus a lot of tourists LOVE and stop seeing you are getting married!!
This also creates not so beautiful backgrounds…

This is NOT my work, just a random photo that I found. Now you know about lighting and tourists, right?

2: Clark Park - Milsons Point

Well… Here is another beautiful spot where will be able to look over beautiful Sydney harbour. One again, lighting here is not so pleasant through the day for the wedding ceremony. (definitely great for picnic though)

Ironically, we can do great photos at The Secret Garden just down the stairs from Clark Park where has got a lot of big trees which creates nice shades.

I won’t go too much details as I have already mentioned the reasons when I talked about Hickson Road Reserve. At least you won’t get much tourists there but this spot is well knows for wedding photographers in Sydney for ummm… wedding spot.

Once again, this is NOT my work… Beautiful styling though…

So these two spots are not my favourite wedding CEREMONY spots.

Only because once when the ceremony starts, we can’t direct you or move or nothing.
We gotta photograph whatever its happening..

Hope you will get what I meant!
